Guguni is a famous curry in maximum homes of Odisha it's also found on the street of Odisha as a street food. In Odisha it's way of eating is different at different places. some people love to eat with plain dosa,idli,upma,puri,paratha, to and some people love to eat with puffed rice( in Oriya it's muri). It's taste yummy with any of these items or without these items.
So here is the recipe of guguni.
Ingredients we need :
1 1/2 cup dry yellow green peas or matar
1 big Potato wash and cut into small pieces
1 onion chopped
1 small red tomato wash and chopped
3 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
2 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon meat masala powder
2 tablespoon oil
Salt as per taste
Coriander leaves for garnish
Method:
Soak matar or dry yellow peas in water for 8 hours after 8 hours wash it properly. Now on a gas stove take a pressure cooker add soaked matar,potato, 3 cups water,1 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder,salt cover the lid and cook it till 3 whistle comes. After 3 whistles switch off the gas stove and let it cool.
On the other hand on a gas stove take a kadhai or a cooking utensil add oil in it when oil is heated add chopped onion and fry it till it's colour change to light brown. When onion get fried add ginger garlic paste,turmeric powder,salt,cumin powder,meat masala powder and fry it on low flame for 2 mins now add chopped tomato mix it add 1/4 cup water and cook it till water dries and oil starts to come out from masala.
Now add cooked matar,potato,1 cup water in it mix properly and cook it on medium flame for 5 mins. Guguni Or dry yellow peas curry is ready.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti,paratha,puri,idli ,dosa,upma or puffed rice.
At my mom's home we love to eat with paratha or puri. But at my in laws home we love to it with muri.
Note :
I have used tea drinking cup for measurement and if your dry peas don't cook in 3 whistles then give it 2-3 more whistle.
