Rath Yatra is famous worldwide and no doubt people come to see it from different part of the country. But before Rath Yatra there is another festival comes in the month of Jeshtha of Hindu calendar in Odia we call it Jeshtha Masa on Purnami or Purnima( full moon day) it's called Deva Snana Purnima or Snana Yatra which is today. Its the first occasion in Hindu calendar its is celebrated as lord Jaganatha birthday.  During this occasion deities Jaganatha, Subhadara, Balabhadra are brought out from Jaganatha Temple to Snana Bedi means bathing place with baja n proccession.

In this deities are bathed with 108 pots of purified water brought from the well of the temple. In the evening after completion of the bathing ritual deities are dressed up like elephant headgear for representing god Ganesh and this avatar of deities is called as Gajavesa. Many devotees come from different places to see this ritual and we as devotees think that during this time if we visit temple and view deities it will free all our sins.

After completion of all the rituals of Snana Yatra deities fall ill for 15 days and taken care under the  supervision of Raj Vaidya in sick room and its called as Anasara. During Anasara devotees will not be able to see deities and go to Alarnath Temple for darshan  which is in Brahamagiri believing this that Lord Jagannath comes as Alarnath  for their Devotees.
